MISSION:
Scene & Heard is a unique mentoring programme that partners the
inner city children of Somers Town, London with volunteer theatre
professionals, to give them an experience of quality one-on-one adult
attention and to enable them to write and sometimes perform their own plays.
The fundamental purpose of the project is to boost the self-esteem of the
children involved by giving them a public platform for their voice and by
providing a personal experience of success. By introducing the children to a
new way of working with language Scene & Heard also strives to improve
attitudes towards learning and literacy skills.
AIMS:
• To boost a child's self esteem through a personal experience of
success
• To provide an environment in which each child feels that he or she
has something
of value to offer
• To remain a significant presence within the lives of the children
with whom we work by providing them with more than a one off opportunity to
work with us
• To provide quality one-on-one adult attention for those children
involved
• To run courses that respond to the developing needs of the children
involved
• To establish a large volunteer base of talented professionals who
are committed to creating theatre with children
